What We Do
Audiology is the specialist field dedicated to hearing and balance problems. The Audiology Team at the BGH provide a range of services for those with hearing impairment from routine hearing assessment and hearing aid provision to specialist clinics for the management of tinnitus or the provision of bone anchored hearing aids.
How do I get an appointment?
We take referrals primarily from general practitioners and our specialist colleagues in Ear, Nose & Throat, but we also welcome referrals from other healthcare practitioners such as Allied Health Professionals. If you feel you are having difficulties with your hearing please speak to your GP in the first instance and they can arrange an onward referral to us for hearing assessment if necessary.
How to find us
Audiology is based at the Borders General Hospital, within Outpatient Department A.
If you enter the hospital by the main entrance, walk past the shop and café area and then take the first right turn. Walk down this corridor and Outpatients A is the first waiting area you come to on the left hand side. Our reception area is located to the right as you walk into the Outpatient A seating area. All Audiology Services at the BGH are appointment only; however you are able to discuss making an appointment or any queries with our friendly administration staff. When arriving for an appointment please let the reception staff know that you are there before taking a seat.
Meet the team
The NHS Borders Audiology department is made up of a small, experienced team of Audiologists, Associate Audiologists, Assistant Technical Officers and Clerical Officers. Our staff have undertaken additional specialist training in areas such as Hearing Therapy, Tinnitus, Hyperacusis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Bone Anchored Hearing Devices.
