Virtual session – What you can expect when you come in for a joint replacement

Our Multidisciplinary team at the Borders General Hospital have prepared a virtual education session for people who are coming into hospital for a planned total hip or knee replacement.

These videos will go over a typical patient’s journey, ranging from attending the first pre operative assessment to discharge and recovery. We hope that this information will help you to prepare for coming into hospital and will let you know what to expect during your admission

Why should I watch them?

Evidence has shown that preoperative education can lead to reduced anxiety and a quicker recovery from surgery. It is recommended that that you watch these videos before coming into hospital – you may find them useful to watch with a family member or a friend and to write down any questions that you have so that these can be answered when you are in hospital.

Meet The Team

These videos will provide you with information from a member of our Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy team. We hope that they help you feel prepared to have an active role in your own care and recovery.
