EyCAT is a new team for the holistic assessment of under 5 year old children with developmental problems. The team consists of a Consultant Paediatrician, Senior Occupational Therapist, Senior Physiotherapist and a Senior Speech and Language Therapist. They are developing links with CAMHS, Pre-school Home Visiting Teachers and CHAD. There is input to the Team by a Pre School Home Visiting Teacher once a month and liaison with CHAD Social Worker once a month.
In referring a child, the following criteria must be met:
- Children under 5 years of age
- Children for whom there is concern about 2 or more areas of their development which is likely to persist for more than 6 months
- Children who are likely to benefit from assessment by a number of different professionals
Referrals are managed through the Child Health Department at Borders General Hospital. Professionals/therapists should speak to others involved with the child to agree referral to EyCAT prior to referral being submitted

- Aberlour 'Bungalow' in St Boswells
- Burnfoot Community School
- Eyemouth Family Centre
- Innerleithen Family Centre
The assessment involves standardised testing and clinical observation and examination. An action plan is developed in collaboration with parents/carers.
