There are a number of Paediatric Service locations throughout the region and this should have been advised, via placement information forms from University to each student, including who and where to report to on day one.

Speech and Language Therapy sessions are provided to children from a variety of clinic bases in local health centres and schools across the Borders region.

Uniform

Smart/ casual clothing (or uniform if preferred) which allows for active engagement in assessment and therapeutic sessions, for example trousers and top.  Bold branding clothes to be avoided.  Avoid dangly and distracting jewellery and strong smelling perfume.

Lunch/ Breaks

It would be advisable to bring your own lunch on placement, and any additional snacks required.  Tea & Coffee facilities will be explained during your induction.  It may be possible to access local shops/ bakers etc for lunches, but this will be very dependent on clinical commitments and locations.

Library Access

There is an onsite library within the Borders General Hospital site, which students are able to access.  As well as books and journals, the library offers computer and photocopier access.  Access information will be available to all students as part of your induction.

The department has its own selection of literature which can be accessed whilst on placement.
