The Orthopaedic Unit is based on Ward 9, second floor at the Borders General Hospital and this is where the majority of the placement will be spent.

The Physiotherapy Orthopaedic team is based at the Rehab Hub which is situated opposite the Stroke ward on the Ground floor of the Borders General Hospital, Melrose, TD6 9BS. Tel: 01896 826545.

Uniform

All students should adhere to the NHS Borders Uniform Policy in these settings, and wear standard issue university uniform.

Individual placement locations will direct students to local changing facilities/ locker access on day one.

Lunch/ Breaks

Tea & Coffee facilities will be explained during your induction. Morning break is usually at 10.45-11am and lunch break is 1-1.30pm.  There is a canteen at the BGH for staff and patients where you can purchase meals or eat your own.

Library Access

There is an onsite library within the Borders General Hospital site, which students are able to access.  As well as books and journals, the library offers computer and photocopier access.  Access information will be available to all students as part of your induction. 

The department has its own selection of literature which can be accessed whilst on placement.

Pre-placement Reading
