Pre Placement Preparation

Throughout NHS Borders there are a number of Occupational Therapy settings including Acute & Community Services, Adult Mental Health & Learning Disabilities and the Children & Young People's Occupational Therapy Service.

You will have already been advised by your university which area you have been assigned to for you upcoming placement.

If you have been successful in obtaining a placement within NHS Borders Occupational Therapy Service, we recommend that you spend some time learning a bit about the area you will be working in – see pre–placement study lists. Your Practice Educator will be able to advise if there is any more specific reading that will be beneficial.

Our Practice Education Coordinators are Susanne Kennedy and Annabelle Clark who you can contact at any point before and during your placement with us. The best way to contact them is via email - BOR.OTPracticePlacementCoordinators@borders.scot.nhs.uk

 RCOT

The Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) is the UK professional body of occupational therapy staff.  They help and guide members throughout their studies and careers.  They also work with members to produce pertinent advice, guidance and information to support members' practice, research, careers and lifelong learning.

RCOT have produced a number of fact sheets covering many areas of Occupational Therapy which may be of interest prior to starting your placement.
