NHS Borders is proud to be a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant. The Covenant is a pledge that those who currently serve or have served, and their families, should be treated fairly and not be disadvantaged in any way.

Our Chief Executive, Ralph Roberts met with Duncan Evans, Regional Employer Engagement Director from the Lowland Reserve Forces and Cadets Association last week to sign the pledge.

Speaking about the pledge, Ralph said: “There are lots of people living locally who are part of the Armed Forces community who served as regulars/reservists or have been cadets, adult volunteers or are the loved ones of those who have served their country. I am delighted to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant again to reaffirm our promise to those who have served in the Armed Forces that NHS Borders is here to support past and present personnel, as well as their families, to ensure that their healthcare needs are met.

“Working with charities Defence Medical Welfare Services (DMWS) and Veterans First Point (part of NHS Borders Mental Health Services and recently moved to new premises in Galashiels) allows us to offer practical and emotional support to ensure that no one goes through the worry of illness or injury alone. I would like to thank both these services for the important work they do and thank all NHS Borders staff for the assistance and support they provide to our Armed Forces, Veterans and their families.”
