Last week NHS Borders hosted a Christmas Supper at the Borders General Hospital for patients who are unable to be with their loved ones at home during this festive period.
Around twenty guests enjoyed a delicious three course meal prepared by our very own Catering Department. The occasion was made extra special with crackers, a visit from Santa and live entertainment from a member of staff who played Christmas carols on the harp.
GB Technologies kindly donated gifts to the patients which were funded by staff and customer donations.
June Wilson, Operations Director, GB Technologies, commented: "The number of gifts donated by our staff and customers for the Patient Christmas Supper was overwhelming. Hopefully these gifts bring a little comfort to the patients who can't be with their loved ones this Christmas. The kindness shown has been truly wonderful and really shows that community spirit exists this festive season."
Nicky Berry, Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Acute Services, said: "This event means a great deal to our patients and their families. People want to be home with their families, especially at this time of year, and it can be unsettling if patients need to be in hospital over the festive period.
"That’s why our Catering Staff, Volunteer Services Manager, Ward Staff and Volunteers have worked together to organise this event. Not only is the Christmas Supper a joy to host, but it's really rewarding to see our patients getting the opportunity to enjoy a Christmas meal with their loved ones."
