The Borders GP Fellowship Scheme aims to be flexible for participants, understanding that many will want to work less than full time. We anticipate most successful candidates will work six sessions per week (one session being ½ day) although this could be extended on a case-by-case basis.

Remuneration is £12,500 per session per year.

Assuming a candidate wanted to work six sessions per week a typical working week could include:

Primary Care: Four sessions. These would be in the same practice for the entirety – with the opportunity to experience working in other practices in NHS Borders for short periods throughout the year.

Out of Hours: One session. Working one weekday evening shift (1800-2200) for the Borders Emergency Care Service (BECS) based out of the Borders General Hospital (Melrose).

Individual Interest Session: One Session. The opportunity to get some hands on experience in an area of your own clinical interest e.g. dermatology/palliative care/paediatrics/emergency medicine/sexual health. These would typically be in-person at the Borders General Hospital.
